UK: Extreme E, the electric off-road racing series, has announced that it has signed an agreement with Spanish television network, TV3 to broadcast its full 2021 season. TV3, which is the public broadcasting network of Catalonia, will broadcast all of Extreme E’s X Prixs live and free to air in Catalan. Race coverage will also be streamed on TV3’s digital channel, TV3-Televisió.

With its headquarters based just outside Barcelona, TV3 is the public broadcasting network of Catalonia and is the most-watched station in the region boasting an impressive 14.6 per cent audience share. In addition, its digital platform, TV3-Televisió was in 2019, named as Catalonia’s leading web channel in terms of user numbers and video views.

Pioneering electric championship Extreme E has already wowed audiences around the world with its stunning series opener in the deserts of Saudi Arabia last month. Beamed live to millions of homes, mobiles and tablets, fans were thrilled by the high drama and jaw-dropping competition as stars of motorsport including Carlos Sainz, Sébastien Loeb, Jenson Button, Molly Taylor and Johan Kristoffersson took to the challenging  sandy dunes of AlUla in 550bhp ‘ODYSSEY 21’ electric SUVs in a bid for a first ever Extreme E podium.

Ultimately nothing could stop the Rosberg X Racing pairing of Kristoffersson and Taylor from storming to victory in a dazzling display of skill, speed and tactics to secure themselves a piece of motorsport history. They were closely followed by Andretti United’s Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen and X44’s Sébastien Loeb and Cristina Gutiérrez.

Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E said: “Extreme E’s mission to ‘race without trace’ whilst simultaneously raising awareness of climate issues, means it is vital that our series reaches as many audiences on as many platforms as possible throughout the world. Working with TV3 will not only provide up to nine millions viewers in Catalonia with a thrilling and innovative motorsport championship, but also convey the message that we all need to play our part in looking after our planet.”

With the Desert X Prix done-and-dusted, the championship’s freight was loaded back onto the St. Helena - Extreme E’s floating centrepiece - and has now arrived in Dakar, Senegal for the Ocean X Prix taking place at Lac Rose from 29-30 May.
