Channel 5 Belize upgrades with AEQ technology

  • 29 November, 2024

ESP: Channel 5 Belize is a privately owned television channel that generates daily content with in-house productions, such as the news programme News5 Live and the magazine programme Open Your Eyes.

With the help of Richard Rawlins, a great reference in the broadcast sector in the Caribbean, Channel 5 is carrying out the modernisation of its studios that includes a new forum, remodelling of its main forum and investment in broadcast equipment. For this, Richard has relied on the company Caritech (AEQ distributor) to achieve a turnkey solution and that, above all, was interconnected at audio and video level with its two studios.

Caritech presented an ambitious audio project, including audio consoles, IP hybrids and intercom,
all interconnected by Dante Protocol.

The implementation of this great solution includes:

  • 2 AEQ Forum Split consoles of 24 faders with Dante module of 16 channels each. This is so that audio control can be carried out in any booth, regardless of the forum where it takes place.

With its modular design and small size, AEQ Forum adapts perfectly to different scenarios: self-control, control-locutory, TV production controls, sound production, mixed configurations, integration in large installations, etc. Simplicity and control power are combined in the AEQ Forum IP console to cover both basic and advanced operation needs. The Forum IP Split version comes with the FR CORE modular engine in 3 rack units. It can be composed of up to 6 quad fader modules and a control and monitoring unit.

Xpeak intercom system, including:

  • 4 Xpeak D desktop panels: two for the audio booths, one for Master Control and one for Studio 1.
  • 6 Xpeak BP beltpacks: all for cameramen, 3 in each studio.
  • 3 Xplorer, for general use.
  • 2 Xpeak IF interfaces: one for each forum. This in order to be able to connect at Dante level
    with the audio ecosystem.

AEQ Xpeak incorporates virtual network technology, through an automatic global interconnection wizard, which avoids the difficulties of creating the virtual network and configuring the devices to work in it.

  • Hybrid of 16 IP lines by Dante protocol: 8 lines for each studio. This equipment lives in the
Control Room and the telephone lines and audio are sent via IP.

Systel IP is a broadcast and multiconference telephony system that drastically reduces the cost of communications, significantly improves quality, increases flexibility and integration with the telephone system of each station or company. It involves a very low investment, with a quick return on investment.

NetBox4 MH for Newsroom recordings, via Dante.

  • The NetBox 4MH interface has been designed to meet the need for high quality microphone inputs and headphone outputs via an IP network over Dante protocol in radio and stage studios as well
as in multimedia and TV studios.

Together with Channel 5's technical team of Luis Sosa and Korey Gooding, the required audio requests were implemented, as well as the necessary routing.

Dante devices are configured and interconnected, making a single audio network where everyone can share content.

For AEQ, this project, coordinated by Mr. César Reyna (AEQ Mexico and Central America Office Manager) allows us to enter the Caribbean market with the right foot, hoping to be a reference for future projects
in the area.
