Belden Acquires SAM

CAN / GBR: Belden has confirmed that it has acquired Snell Advanced Media (SAM), financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The newly merged company will be headquartered in Montreal and operate under the Grass Valley moniker with Tim Shoulders, President of Grass Valley heading the combined operation, working with SAM’s Chief Executive Eric Cooney, who will continue to serve in an advisory capacity.
“With this investment Belden again demonstrates our commitment to the broadcast industry. Adding SAM’s employees and products to the Grass Valley family extends Grass Valley’s global reach, makes us more agile and provides even more domain expertise to enhance Grass Valley’s industry-leading solutions in networking, news and live production and content delivery for broadcasters,” said Tim Shoulders (pictured). “Our customers face competition and uncertainty like never before. This transaction will help them navigate the technology options available to them with fewer concerns around interoperability and deployment complexity while providing them greater access to the innovators developing the solutions of tomorrow.”
This is another major acquisition by Belden within the broadcast industry. Since Telecast Fiber Systems in 2009, Belden has been involved in a series of acquisitions including Miranda Technologies in 2012, Softel in 2013, Grass Valley in 2014 and ThinkLogical in 2017.
The SAM brand will be retired although some unspecified products from the brand will be retained. More information will be revealed at NABSHOW 2018 in April. Grass Valley have said both companies will combine on a single stand in Las Vegas.
